Farm to Table Recipes

A Tomato Sandwich Worthy of a Little Bacon
Ingredients
3 slices bacon, cooked crisp, crumbled and rendered fat reserved
1 room temperature egg
1 clove garlic
1 avocado
Juice of half a lemon
3/4 cup vegetable oil
The Bacon-Avocado Aioli
Toasted slices of a good rustic Italian bread
The best tomatoes you can find, sliced about 1/4 inch thick
Salt and pepper
Notes / Directions
1. Process the bacon, egg, garlic, lemon juice and avocado in the bowl of a mini food processor until smooth. Add the vegetable oil and the rendered bacon fat through the holes on the lid slowly while continuing to process until very smooth and thick. Refrigerate for about an hour to thicken a bit more.

2. Slather as much of the aioli as you like on a slice of the toast. Top with a few slices of tomato and sprinkle with salt and pepper. I like these open face but if you like, slather a second piece of bread with more of the aioli and place on top.

ABOUT THE BOUGHT FILM

You’re about to see how Wall Street has literally “BOUGHT” your and your family’s health. The food, vaccine, drug, insurance and health industries are a multi-BILLION dollar enterprise… focused more on profits than human lives. The BOUGHT documentary takes viewers deep “inside the guts” of this despicable conspiracy.
Featuring exclusive interviews with the world’s most acclaimed experts in research, medicine, holistic care and natural health… Bought exposes the hidden (and deadly) story behind it all.

Markets close at 8:00pm Monday. Please remember that minimums must be met for each Market to ensure delivery by our Farmers! Be sure and get your order in and thank you for supporting our LOCAL Farmers!

NEWS AND NOTES

The summer vegetables are plentiful at this time of year, as well as locally sourced milk and eggs. There are also a lot of great perennial plants and quite a few houseplants and hanging baskets. Check out the herbs, both fresh-cut and dried, as well as the herb plants. Be sure to get your share of local beef and pork cuts!

This message comes from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse:

Thankfully the weather will be a bit cooler this coming week, and along with some much-needed rain, will make very good planting conditions. Our herb and perennial plants are looking very good, and would really help to dress up your garden before your July 4th celebrations. Especially nice right now are rosemary, several varieties of lavender, and all the thymes, mints, and basils. Foliage of artemisia, santolina, and euonymous; and blooms of several asters, balloon flower, coneflowers, late daylilies, and gauras will brighten your garden. We still have several very nice hanging baskets for your porch or patio, as well as ferns for the shady areas. We still have a very few tomato plants for a late garden. How about a very nice basket of potted herbs as a hostess gift for a July 4th gathering?

(L to R) Lotion Bar and Dried Spearmint from Solace Farm, Pink Soldacki Tomatoes from Erdmann Farm, Sweet (Green) Basil from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse, Ham Slice from Weaver Farms.

If you prefer to utilize this free service, please make a note on your order or call my cell at (931) 273-9708.

Thanks so much for your support of Manchester Locally Grown Market, all of our growers, local food, and our right to eat it. Please encourage our local farmers by helping to spread the word about our wonderful market to everyone you know. Nothing makes a farmer more excited than seeing new customers on the market!

Martin's Farmstand:  Strawberry picking dates

We will be open for u-pick strawberries Saturday morning (6/27) starting at 7 AM.
I have just came in from walking the fields. I think that there are several hundred quarts of ripe berries for tommorrow. If I am reading the plants right I see a simular amount of strawberries for each picking for the next 7- 10 days or so. There are still pretty many of green berries left. This coming week is the peak of the season. Set your expectations fairly low, the picking will never be good by normal standards anytime this year.

The wonderful taste of the berries that I ate as I walked through fields this evening is still lingering in my mouth. There is no picking on Monday June 29. We will be open for picking again on Wed. July 1st at 2pm. And Saturday July 4th at 7am. Daniel

DeForest, WI:  Farm Stand opens at 3!

Hope to see ya soon.
